Dubai

Dubai, the main city in UAE was my next destination during my visit to Abu Dabhi. Dubai is one of the most popular cities in UAE is a main tourist draw for people from around the world. There are many options to travel from any where in UAE to Dubai. The cheapest is by bus which costs 25AED for a 1 way ticket and takes around 2 hours.

Since I was having only 4  days, I knew covering all the places there would not be possible hence I decided to prioritize the places that can be covered. The main tourist attractions in Dubai is the Burj Khalifa, Burj Al Arab, Palm Jumeriah, Atlantis Hotel among others.

The first place of interest I visited was the dubai museum which was close to my hotel. The museum has various sections and Chronicles the emergence of dubai from a tiny village to a bustling metropolis.

The museum has various replicas of the weapons and the items used the localites in the days gone by.  This shows us the progress made by the city over the duration of time.

The next place to visit was the dubai mall which has a wonderful aquarium and also Burj Khalifa the world’s tallest tower. The aquarium has variety of fishes, sharks and other marine animals up close.  Spent sometime clicking photos before moving to other parts of the aquarium located in the second floor. Spending close to an hour there i headed to burj khalifa which is located at the basement.

One can go to the top of Burj Khalifa and view the skyline of dubai which looks terrific from the top. Tickets can be booked online at a reduced price or buy it at the venue itself where the prices are higher.

The next destination was the dubai creek which has a nice walkway built on the harbour. The creek has a nice walkway built which can be used for walking / cycling and other activities. One can see plenty of yachts and other dhows(water taxi) which can take u for a short tour.

Al Ain Zoo and Sheikh Zayed Mosque

After visiting Abu Dabhi Zoo, I headed to Al Ain also called the green city which is around 150 kms from Abu Dabhi. A 3 hour comfortable ride took me to the bus stand from where I was supposed to catch another bus to the zoo. Myself and another guy who also was heading to the zoo, asked the bus driver to notify us when we get to the zoo, which for some reason he forgot. Instead of going to the zoo, we landed at a mosque !!. The Jebel hafeet mountain range was visible from here and as we had some time I wandered around the place taking photos.

Once the photo shoot was over we headed back to the bus and this time the driver promised us he would inform us once we get to the zoo which he promptly did. The zoo was just round the corner from the bus stop and we reached the gates pretty soon. Paying the entry fee of 2o AED we headed inside.

The Al-Ain zoo is much larger compared to the Abu Dabhi zoo. The animals are kept in open enclosures and though glass protects the people, one can still get an up close view of the animals. The zoo is also categorized into diff sections and upon request at the entrance a zoo map is provided which shows all the animal / bird locations in the zoo.

The zoo being much larger took us about 4 hours to cover everything. The zoo has everything from lions, gorilla, birds, penguins and other animals

IMG_6866_resizeWith the zoo visit complete it was time to head back to the bus stand. Enroute i asked the taxi driver about the other attractions such as the museum and the fort which I was told were not too interesting. Due to time constraints, these could not visited

The next place to visit after coming back to Abu Dabhi was the sheikh zayed grand mosque which I visited the next day.

Sheikh Zayed mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world and is an impressive feat of architecture.

This architectural work of art is one the world’s largest mosques, with a capacity for an astonishing 40,000 worshippers. It features 82 domes, over a 1,000 columns, 24 carat gold gilded chandeliers and the world’s largest hand knotted carpet. The main prayer hall is dominated by one of the world’s largest chandeliers –10 metres in diameter, 15 metres in height and weighing twelve tonnes. The mosque’s first ceremony was the funeral of its namesake, Sheikh Zayed, who is buried at the site.

Reflective pools surround the mosque, amplifying its beauty. The striking white and gold colours shining in the sun are transformed at night by a unique lightning system which reflects the phases of the moon.

Emirates Park Zoo and Abu Dabhi Corniche

Emirates park zoo , located 35 kms from the Abu Dabhi is a good place to visit for the weekend. With buses going all the way to the zoo, one can easily get there in 40-45 min paying only 4 dhs. I had decided to pay a visit to the zoo on fri as it was a weekend. The zoo opens from 9.30-8 pm and the activities and other details regarding the zoo can be found in their official site http://www.emiratesparkzoo.com/.

The zoo from the bus stop in Abu Dabhi to the zoo took around 45 min and I was at the entrance by 11 am. Paying 25 AED for the ticket i began to explore the zoo. The zoo has a wide range of animals from lions , zebras, elephants, flamingos etc. It would take around 2-3 hours to cover the entire place.

Evening was spent walking on the corniche. The corniche or the corniche road is a manicured waterfront which has a cycling track, running and walking spaces. Spread over 8 kms the place is designed so that people and enjoy their evenings while enjoying the sunset on the horizon. The emirates presidential palace is on the same road and is one of the iconic buildings in Abu Dabhi
